Indore Metro Vs Lucknow Metro - A Fascinating Comparison Between 2 Metros [2024]

Here we will majorly differentiate between these 2 metro networks in India on the basis of the length of the network, trains, types of track gauges, electrifications, etc. So let’s get started without wasting any time.

Owner

Metro projects are huge projects from the infrastructure size and funds size perspective which means a huge capital is needed to build metro networks and for any state, it is difficult to do it without the support of the Central Government, thus whenever a state plans for a metro network, an organization is created for the planning, implementation, and operations of the metro.

For the Indore Metro Project, Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited was formed which is a joint venture between the MP Government and the Central Government with an equal partnership of 50-50%. MPMRCL is also the owner of the Bhopal Metro Project.

Whereas the planning, implementation, operations, and extension of the Lucknow Metro Project are the responsibility of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited, it is a joint venture between the UP Government and the Central Government with an equal partnership of 50-50%.

Number Of Corridors

Currently, only one corridor is under construction in Indore which is named as Line 3 or Yellow as a part of the first phase of the metro implementation in the city. As per the planning, there will be a total of 11 corridors out of which 5 are approved but construction has not begun yet.

If we consider Lucknow Metro Project Corridors then there is one operational corridor inaugurated on 5 September 2017 and this corridor is named Red Line while there is another approved corridor named Blue Line but the construction is not begun yet.

Length Of Metro System

If we include all 11 metro corridors, then the whole Indore Metro network will be 124 km in length out of which a 33.53 km long metro route is under construction which is expected to be completed and operational by August 2024.

The whole Lucknow Metro Project is planned to build an 85 km metro network across the city with different corridors out of which some part is completed and some are under construction. Currently, the operational route of Lucknow Metro is 22.87 km in length which is the Red Line while an 11.17 km long Blue Line is under construction. Further extensions of these lines will be planned to achieve the length of the planned metro network.

Train Length

Indore Metro trains are expected to be 3 to 6 coaches long while Lucknow Metro trains are 4 coaches long. The length of the train in every metro system is decided as per the need which is ultimately calculated by the population of the city and that is why the number of coaches varies in metro trains from city to city.
